Harry’s blatant disregard for commercialism in favor of artistic satisfaction showed itself in Nilsson's next release, A Little Touch of Schmilsson in the Night (1973). Harry truly pulled the cork out of the bottle and let it flow.  Performing a selection of pop standards by the likes of Irving Berlin and Kalmar & Ruby, Nilsson sang in front of an orchestra arranged and conducted by veteran Gordon Jenkins in sessions produced by his constant supporter Derek Taylor. While in hindsight, the sessions showcased an extremely talented singer in one of his best performances, this was not the sort of thing that was going to burn up the charts in the 1970s. The session was filmed, and was broadcast as a television special by the BBC in the UK (Nilsson fans still await this film's release in some home video format).

This album is most notable in being a standard's album produced decades before standards albums started to become popular. The Album was met with modest chart success but is often regarded as the finest example of Nilsson's virtuosic singing.  As with the previous postings of Schmilsson, I will be posting all of the songs from this classic, in order as they appear on the US album version which will require two sessions since I can only fit the first 9 songs of 13 this time around.  Incidentally, the UK version (entitled As Time Goes By perhaps more fittingly since it is the song that glues all of the lead-ins together) has a whopping 19 tracks, the entire recording session as it was meant to be performed, but alas, I do not have this version.
